Three Programmes
Three Rooms, Three Approaches to Financial Thinking
Each programme addresses a distinct aspect of financial understanding. They may be attended in any order. Many participants find that attending two or all three over time produces a more complete picture than any single programme can offer.
Back to HomeOur Approach to Financial Education
Each Mongkol Group programme is built on the same underlying premise: that adults who have managed money through real decades of life need a different kind of educational encounter than beginners do. They need depth, not introduction. They need discussion, not lecture. They need a frame for thinking, not a set of instructions to follow.
The facilitator's role in each session is to present material, ask questions, and keep the conversation rigorous without steering it toward a predetermined answer. Sessions do not culminate in recommendations. They culminate in participants having read more carefully, thought more precisely, or observed something about their own relationship to financial decisions that they had not previously named.
Programmes are offered as distinct units. There is no hierarchy — no compulsory sequence, no prerequisite. Participants choose the programme that addresses the question they currently find most useful.
Reading What the Markets Did
A three-evening programme on the patient practice of looking back at market history — quarterly, annually, decadewise — without using the past as a prediction of the future. The facilitator draws on long-running data from Thai and regional markets and explains how to read return histories alongside the wider economic context of the period. The aim is fluency. Participants leave with a small reading list and a personal one-page note.
What This Programme Develops
- Ability to read long-run return data without misreading it as forecast
- Understanding of how economic context shapes market periods
- Familiarity with Thai SET history and regional data
- A personal one-page reading note for ongoing reference
- A curated reading list for continued independent study
How Each Evening Is Structured
The Households of Friends
A weekend workshop built around carefully anonymized case studies of households at 40+ — different income levels, different family configurations, different careers — that show several considered approaches to common financial questions. Participants discuss what they recognize in each case study and what they might consider for their own household. The facilitator's role is to keep the discussion respectful and reflective rather than prescriptive.
What This Programme Develops
- Recognition of common household financial patterns without judgment
- Vocabulary for discussing money within family structures
- Exposure to approaches different from one's own without being advised toward them
- A clearer sense of which financial questions most need attention
How the Weekend Unfolds
The Patient Investor's Almanac
A six-month programme of monthly meetings in which participants keep a personal "almanac" of patient observations about their financial life and the wider market context. The facilitator provides a printed monthly prompt sheet developed for adult learners and hosts a quiet discussion at each meeting. The almanac itself is a private document the participant keeps. Many participants choose to begin a second cycle in the following year.
What This Programme Develops
- A sustained habit of financial observation across six months
- Ability to distinguish financial noise from meaningful signal
- A personal almanac document for ongoing reference
- Experience of quiet, regular discussion with peers at a similar life stage
- Foundation for a second-year cycle of deepened observation
